Roger Federer put himself in a commanding position to
qualify for his 12th semi-final in 13 ATP World Tour Finals with a 6-3 6-2 win
over Kei Nishikori.
In the second round of Group B
matches, the world number two was rarely troubled by an under-par Nishikori,
who hit 30 unforced errors and whose first serve percentage in the second set
was down at 46%.
Federer’s
progression from the group stages could be confirmed today if Milos Raonic beats Andy Murray in
this evening’s match, or if Murray beats Raonic in three sets.
After the match he said: “I am very
happy, I think Kei can play better obviously but I’m happy with my play today.
